Perimenopause- The elephant in the room.

Do you know what the best-kept secret knowledge is in symptom diagnosis today?
I believe it is what happens to women's health in the years roughly over the age of 35 and before menopause—perimenopause. Never heard of it? Read on.
The slow and steady decline of sex hormone production has a tremendous impact on the mental and physical health of these women, yet not many healthcare practitioners connect the dots.
Turns out that our sex hormones protect us from a variety of ailments! This is why you see kids "grow out" of certain conditions plaguing them in childhood when they hit puberty. It is also why we see such a decline in the physical and cognitive health of those after the age of 50.
Perhaps perimenopause is even harder on the body than the actual post-menopause period. Why? We are adaptable organisms, and I can imagine the brain getting used to and adapting to very low levels of sex hormones eventually. But in perimenopause, one day, you could be riding a high of the teenage levels of sex hormones and tanking low on the next day, feeling like the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Sounds familiar?
Patients in that age group often say to me:
"Unexpectedly, I don't feel like myself anymore, but my labs are fine."
"I feel like I am falling apart. Like it's all over for me."
"All of a sudden, I can't keep things together anymore."
"I have crippling anxiety attacks."
"I have started to put on weight, even though I haven't changed anything."
Perimenopause often sneaks in with all sorts of symptoms way before the menstrual cycle actually shows changes. Therapists frequently conclude that a lot of women they see indeed come from the perimenopause age bracket. Why is nobody talking about this?
In the book The Menopause Reset, Dr. Mindy Pelz writes about her personal experience not as a doctor but as a woman who went through a rough perimenopause period and could not find any information or support despite being a physician herself. It's a brilliant book, and I highly recommend it. She also has a fabulous podcast.
Good news: You can do a lot to navigate the perimenopause and menopause transitions! You can feel like yourself again and enjoy radiant mental health, good metabolism, sleep, and energy levels.
Ayurveda offers an array of effective herbs and recommendations to support and stabilize hormonal production during the final decade of menstruation.
I would love to support you in reclaiming your hormonal balance and well-being.
